We all love a good fitness hack. I bet most of you are hoping I’ll say you can stay fit without any regular fitness training. Of course, I wish that was true, but to say it wouldn’t be honest.
All the fit women I’ve known personally over the years, and celebrities I’ve followed on social media have the same healthy habits. These women may make it look effortless, but there’s no genetic advantage and definitely no shortcuts when it comes to staying in shape.
The good news is, if you want to be fit it’s entirely possible and often you just have to add some daily healthy habits to your morning routine. You can get fit for the summer or stay in shape through the winter months just by making a few small changes.
I’ve always been a sucker for something new. I’ll sign up for the latest fitness app or throw myself into a fitness program looking for a quick transformation. I’ll usually end up burned out and injured from doing too much too soon. A bit like joining a gym on the 1st of January, and going every day for the first week until you’re so sore you can’t face going again for the rest of the year.
Now I’m a bit older, and hopefully a little wiser, I’ve found out that the habits that make a difference are the consistent ones, the small changes you make that add up over time to make a big difference. Read on to get the most out of your fitness training:
How Some Women Always Stay Fit
1. They Are Consistent With Their Fitness Training
Some of the fittest women I know don’t overload their bodies with massive workouts but they do show up consistently. They have a regular fitness routine. It could be running 3 times a week, a daily yoga session or just walking to work and back.
Their exercise routine is something they’ve built up over the years that keeps them fit but doesn’t overly stress their bodies. Women who stay fit know that regular exercise is everything, and that small daily efforts will lead to big results.
2. They Love Exercise
All the women I know who stay fit love to exercise. The type of exercise can vary widely – some of them love yoga, others are obsessed with open-water swimming and some like to run.
When you talk to these women who are always fit it’s obvious that for them exercise is a big deal. They can’t imagine NOT exercising regularly.
In fact, if anything ever stops them from running, walking, or whatever is their exercise of choice – these women really miss it and can’t wait to get back to their daily routine!
If you’re thinking that’s all very well but I just don’t enjoy exercise, it could just be because you haven’t found the right activity. I seriously think there’s something out there for everyone.
Or maybe you just need to look at an activity again with fresh eyes. I was never good at sports in school until I discovered running on my own terms and stopped thinking about sport as punishment. Exercising at your own pace with your own goals is completely different from being hollered at by a P.E. teacher.
3. They Know That Diet Is Important
Women who always stay fit will mainly eat a healthy diet. Often it’s more than that – they love food, care about what they’re putting in their bodies, and enjoy making meals from scratch.
They understand that staying fit is about what you eat as much as how hard you work out. That diet is just as important as exercise.
These women also know that being totally puritanical about their diet doesn’t work – every now and then they indulge in a delicious treat – just not all the time and not every day.
4. They Value Rest And Sleep
Women who always stay fit know their boundaries. They realize that if they push hard all the time and don’t take rest days, their bodies will eventually break down. They prioritize getting enough sleep and understand the importance of rest and recovery.
Staying fit is not about pushing yourself to the limit, it’s about balance. Exercise but allow your body time to recover and recharge. Often women who always stay fit are not the ones doing the hardest workouts. They’re the women who value rest and sleep. Who exercise consistently but let their bodies recover between sessions.
5. They Embrace Life
I have rarely met a woman who always stays fit and is full of negativity. Obviously, it helps that exercise is good for your mental health.
But women who exercise regularly and consistently often have an up-for-anything attitude to life. They’re open to new ideas and will take on new challenges.
Plus these women won’t be put off by stereotypes. If they want to play rugby, take up boxing, lift weights, or take part in any other typically male sport, they will.
6. They Keep Active During The Day
Women who stay fit don’t complete their exercise sessions and then spend the rest of the day on the couch – they’re always looking for excuses to move more.
For these women, 10,000 steps a day isn’t an effort, it’s a minimum. They’ll take the stairs instead of the elevator, walk to the store instead of driving, and find ways to incorporate movement into their daily tasks.
They understand that staying fit is not just about those few focused hours at the gym – it’s about being active throughout the day. So if you want to be like them, don’t just hit your workout and then sit about for the rest of the day. Keep moving – do some chores, fix a meal, visit an art gallery – just don’t spend the rest of the day sitting down!
7. They Set Realistic Goals
Confession. I’m not always someone who sets realistic goals, sometimes I get carried away and plan a huge adventure that pushes me to the limits and stretches my beliefs of what my body’s capable of.
But I’m not always fit. I’ll set these grand goals, overdo it, and my body will take a while to restore its balance. Yet when I do set realistic goals, I get more consistent results and normally stay fit without getting ill or injured.
Women I know who always stay fit have a much more sensible attitude. They set realistic achievable goals and work consistently towards those targets. I’m trying to be more like them!
8. They Have A Positive Body Image
It always saddens me that many women struggle to like their bodies. It’s always I wish I was thinner, I wish my butt was firm, I wish my _______was bigger/smaller/rounder/less saggy.
But women who stay fit have a different relationship with their bodies. They appreciate their body’s capabilities and focus on what they can do, rather than how it looks.
Exercise is about feeling good, not just looking good. And when you feel good, you start to embrace your body and all its unique features. So instead of focusing on your “flaws,” focus on how amazing your body is for allowing you to run, jump, lift, dance, and everything in between!
9. They Embrace Diversity
Women who always stay fit come in all shapes, sizes, and abilities. They know that having a certain body type or athletic ability does not make them any better or worse than someone else. They embrace diversity and support inclusivity in the fitness world.
They understand that each person’s journey to health and wellness is unique, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Instead of comparing themselves to others, they focus on their own progress and celebrate the achievements of those around them.
So if you’re feeling intimidated by someone else’s fitness journey, don’t be. Your journey is just as valid and important. We’re all following a path to a healthier, happier life. Be supportive of one another, keep moving, keep learning, and keep loving yourself! Your body will thank you for it.
