5 Things To Consider When Buying Gifts For Runners, Especially Women
- Don’t feel daunted. If you’re a non-runner, buying gifts for runners can seem challenging, but the reality is, we’re easy to please. Most runners love the latest gadgets – anything to make our runs faster and easier!
- Don’t worry about duplicates. There’s always a risk that runners will already have some of the items on this list, but that doesn’t matter. There are some must-have gifts you can never have enough of. I’m thinking running socks, gloves, gels, and even headlamps, which always go missing in our household.
- Avoid buying running shoes. Unless you’ve been told the exact size, make, and model, steer clear of running shoes. Shoes are a very personal choice, so don’t surprise someone with a pair – it will go horribly wrong.
- Running gear is stretchy. This makes getting the fit right a little easier, especially for running tops. Just like many running gift ideas, you can never have enough running tops. Your favorite one is nearly always in the wash.
- Many running gifts for women are affordable. Energy bars, blister kits, and bath bombs all make excellent stocking fillers.

Best Gifts For Runners, Ideas For Women
- 90 Degree By Reflex Running Jacket – A running jacket should be comfortable, keep the runner warm, and be made from breathable fabric to prevent overheating. This jacket may allude to a better-known (and pricier) brand, but it’s a well-made jacket in its own right. Nicely shaped and breathable with a full-length zip for venting. The thumb loops and pockets are a nice touch. This is one running jacket that’s worn about town as much as pounding the streets.
- The Worm Massaging Muscle Roller – Most runners have aches and knots, but foam rollers are bulky to carry, so you never have one when you need it. This is where the Worm comes into its own. It’s a portable massage roller. Use it anywhere and everywhere. After the gym, in the car, or at a work desk. Your running friend will love it!
- Trailheads Fleece Ponytail Hat – A warm hat is an essential item when running in cold weather. This one is ever-so soft and cosy, has a pull-down flap to cover ears, and even keeps a ponytail in place.
- Balega No Show Socks – Good running socks may seem expensive compared with cheap cotton versions, but the difference for runners is enormous. Socks that fit properly help prevent blisters and keep feet from sliding around in shoes, improving running form.
- Believe Journal – I adore this running journal, and I’m on my third version. It doesn’t matter how many running apps you have to record progress; a handwritten journal is better for planning your training and your year ahead. This one comes full of motivational tips and advice.
- POM Pepper Spray – Sadly, all women need to consider personal safety when running alone. This pepper spray is small and discreet to carry. Slip it in a flipbelt, ready for emergencies. (US only).
- Dr Scholl’s Reviving, Self-Heating Foot Mask – This one’s on my Christmas wish list. After a long run, your friend can slip on these self-heating booties infused with Epsom salts and essential oils. Bliss.
- 2Toms SportShield – I get through several of these a year. It’s an anti-chaffing stick for all those sensitive areas. It even helps prevent blisters.
- Race Medal Holder – Instead of hiding those medals in the back of a drawer, help your running friend show off her achievements.
- Garmin Forerunner 165 – If your female friend is new to running, there’s every chance they will need a running watch. The Garmin Forerunner 165 is an excellent choice for beginner runners. This watch provides accurate GPS run tracking and so much more. Its Morning Report is a mini motivator providing insights into recovery needs and suggested workouts based on status. Your running friend will be inspired to run consistently, but avoid over-training that often leads to injury.
- Nathan Speedview Flask – Many runners, especially beginners, like to run with a small hand-held water bottle. It’s a great way to stay hydrated! The only problem is that your hand starts to get tired of gripping a bottle. As your hand gets tired, so does your arm, which can even begin to affect your running posture. This flask from Nathan wraps around the hand – no gripping required! No tired hands! There’s even a zip pocket to stash a phone and keys safely.
- SHOKZ OpenRun Bone Conductor Headphones – Help your friend stay safe running with headphones by gifting these bone conductor headphones. They allow a runner to hear the beats while staying aware of traffic noises and other road users.
- Trailheads Women’s Running Gloves – Most runners never have enough pairs of gloves, and these touchscreen gloves are very desirable. Make the runner in your life happy!
- Baleaf Running Top – These running tops for women are elegantly shaped and made from a highly breathable stretchy polyester fabric. Choose from 10 different colorways.
- Outdoor Research Aspire II Jacket – This GORE-TEX jacket is for days when you’re running into a storm. It will keep your running friend protected from heavy rain and wind. The vents help prevent overheating, and it packs away easily when not in use.
- Gone For A Run Daily Desk Calendar – As much as we love running, all runners need a little inspiration. Your running friend will enjoy the daily quotes and can use the calendar to record daily mileage—a heartfelt product from a US company run by runners.
- Viz Blaze Reflective Vest – Safety first in our house, but let’s face it – some hi-viz vests lack style. No one wants to wear something that resembles a fluorescent yellow potato sack. These reflective vests have a little more shape and ditch the glaring bright yellow. But don’t be fooled, the light from a car’s headlamps will explode off the vest and make sure your friend is highly visible.
- Sockwell Women’s Compression Socks – Love the funky patterns. Made with merino wool, these US-made socks are terrific for preventing sore calves.
- Run Like A Girl 365 Days A Year – Help the runner in your life find what makes them happy with this honest and authentic must-read book.
- Road ID – This little bracelet is a solution for running without any ID. It can list name, emergency contacts, and medical details – just in case.
- Hydrapak Ultra Flask Speed 600ml – Are you buying a gift for a woman who runs on the trails? If so, she’ll love this suggestion. It’s a collapsible, soft flask for runners that lets you filter water on the go.
- Under Armour Mock Neck T-Shirt – perfect for cold winter days, this running top has an ultra-warm, brushed interior for days when it’s difficult to leave the house. It’s a wickable fabric with a smooth, quick-drying exterior. Choose from several different colorways.
- Black Diamond Carbon Z Lightweight Running Poles – Many trail and ultra runners use poles. It helps them power up the hills and protect their knees on descents. These Z poles are ultra-light, easy to deploy, and pack away when not in use.
- Fenix HL18R-T V2.0 800 Lumen Headlamp – Fenix is my favorite headlamp brand, and this model ticks all the boxes for staying safe, road running at night, or even running on the trails. It’s 800 lumens – that’s bright, fully rechargeable, and capable of coping in any weather.
- Balega Blister Resist Performance Quarter Socks – These running socks are softer than wool! They combine mohair with Drynamix to protect sensitive blister-prone skin.
- Salomon Active Skin 8 Hydration Running Vest – Salomon running vests are my top choice for racing and training. This one includes 2 x 500 ml soft flasks for fluids and has plenty of space for running essentials – gels, high energy snacks, phone, and a rain jacket.
- Flipbelt – for shorter runs, it’s the ideal solution for stashing keys and a phone. It lies flat against your stomach and stays put as you run. The openings are easy to access and keep all your bits and bobs secure – phone, keys, emergency Peanut Butter Clif Bar…
- Theragun Massage Gun – It’s hard to go wrong with this gift. A massage gun helps runners warm up before an event and reduce soreness afterwards. Theragun makes highly respected products, and it’s on my Christmas wish list!
- Race Number Belt – This race number belt includes a secure pocket for keys and a phone, plus easy-access loops for gels. Combine the gift with a race entry!
- Ultimate Running Gift Bundle – I can be a little sceptical about gift boxes, but this one is packed full of goodies for a beginner runner. Contains a running belt, beanie, LED headtorch, soft flask water bottle, and so much more. If you’re trying to encourage a new runner, this could be the perfect present.
