Walking Or Running: Which Is Better For Weight Loss?

Runners burn more calories per mile and generally weigh less than walkers - but that doesn't mean running is better if you're new to exercise.

Studies into runners versus walkers long-term weight loss don't account for people who are completely new to exercise.

If you have a lot of weight to lose, trying to run will be really hard on your joints - it's a good way to get injured.

Try walking for weight loss first. You can always switch to running when you're fitter and you've lost a few pounds.

How Many Calories Do You Burn Per Mile?

There's not much difference between calories burned per mile walking vs running - walking just takes longer.

Try The Run/Walk Method

If you do try running start with a run/walk method. When you've warmed up, alternate running and walking. As you get fitter, make the run sections longer and the walk sections shorter!

Both will burn calories and help you lose weight, improve your cardiovascular health, reduce high blood pressure, and do wonders for your mental health.
